In a statement released this morning, alongside a picture of the team of officers holding the dogs, police in East Lothian said: “All of the puppies were unharmed and officers have a positive line of enquiry with regards the theft.”

The owner of the puppies took to social media on Saturday to make a public plea following the theft, and warned people to be aware of any Border Collies puppies for sale.

But in an updated post that night she wrote: “Our litter of collie puppies are home and back with their mum.

“Thank you so much to everyone for all the shares, the response has been unbelievable. We are overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness.”
