The new initiative took place yesterday as ‘Lock your bike’ stickers were placed on bike stands in the Southside, the Meadows, Gilmerton, and at The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University and at the Royal Infirmary.

The sticker includes a diagram demonstrating how cyclists should lock their bike. Edinburgh Police hope this will help locals and the rest of the public keep their bikes safe and secure in the capital. Cyclists are advised to, where possible, lock the frame and both wheels to the stand to increase their bike’s security in public places.

The news comes as cycle theft incidents continue in the Capital as more people take to their bikes during lockdown. Recent reports have included an Edinburgh woman’s brand new £800 bike being stolen and a spate of bike thefts outside Granton PureGym.
