The female passenger, who wishes to remain anonymous, was on the 49 bus service at Old Dalkeith Road on Sunday night at around 6pm, when her thoughts were interrupted by a ‘sudden massive smash.’

The woman who sat at the second seat from the front upstairs said her mind had been occupied by thoughts of getting home to watch the Line of Duty season finale at the moment the incident occurred.

She said: “I was in a rush to get home. I was just sitting on the bus, minding my own business, looking out the front window upstairs, going through theories of who H could be and all of a sudden from nowhere there was a massive smash.”

No one was injured, however, the whole top window near the back of the bus was shattered and flying glass ‘almost hit’ another woman sitting at the back of the bus, she said.

Police Scotland has launched enquiries following the incidents.

The female passenger on the Lothian Buses 49 service added: “Instantly a couple of us shook our heads cause we knew what had been happening in the past.

Unable to identify the perpetrators or the object thrown, the woman said: “None of of us really saw anything but we didn’t have a proper look just stared at the hole and the glass falling in disbelief just so happy no one was hurt.

"It was like it came from the bushes and when you looked you couldn’t see anything but the wall and the tree line which probably explains why we couldn’t see anyone running away.

“After it happened the driver was great with us, and we managed to get on another bus home.”

Around four passengers were upstairs when the incident happened.

Since no one was hurt, the woman added that the whole incident was frustrating as she missed the first half hour of the hit cop drama.

She said: “If someone got hurt I wouldn’t have cared about Line of duty, but since everyone was injury free and okay it did annoy me a bit.”
