Major police search party spotted near Edinburgh playing field

A heavy police presence was spotted this afternoon near a playing field in the Capital.
Officers were searching for a man who was reported to have gone missing from one of the city’s hospitals.

Hide AdSeveral police cars were seen parked near the Myreside and George Watson playing fields at about 5pm where the search was being carried out.
A concerned resident in the area said: "I saw two police vans driving up Myreside Road and multiple cars with sirens on.
"I saw officers on foot as well.
"They were definitely looking for someone and more cars pulled into the car park at Myreside playing field."
Another witness said she saw “up to ten police vehicles” in the area at the time of the incident.

Hide AdThe man has since been found and returned to the hospital where he remains for further assessments.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police were called around 4.45 pm Tuesday, 19 May, 2020, after a man had gone missing from Royal Edinburgh.
"He was subsequently traced in the Meggatland area and returned to the hospital where he remains for assessment.
"The search area included Myreside playing field and George Watson's playing field."
