Man arrested after bomb squad called to Dalkeith house

A bomb squad has been investigating within a Dalkeith home after a number of 'chemical items of concern' were discovered.

A 19-year-old man, who initially had been taken to hospital with serious injuries, has now been arrested in connection with breaching the peace and assaulting two police officer.

Police in Midlothian were called to an address in Elmfield Park on Tuesday by the Scottish Ambulance Service following concern for a person within.

But when officers entered the property they discovered a number of chemical items inside which caused concern.

A bomb disposal unit was called out and has been conducting an investigation.

A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital yesterday with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

He has since been arrested in connection with breaching the peace and assaulting a police officer.

He is due to appear in court on Wednesday.

Police remain at the property as officers continue to investigate.

Chief Inspector Kenny Simpson, Area Commander for Midlothian, said: “I appreciate the disruption and concern that the significant emergency service activity may have caused to local residents.

“However, following specialist examination, I want to reassure people that there is not believed to be any immediate risk to the public.

“Be assured that we continue to work with colleagues in specialist areas and outwith Police Scotland as we establish the nature of these items and their purpose.

“Anyone who has concerns or information which may be relevant can speak to an officers in the area or contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1853 of 20th November.”
