A man has been arrested following a serious assault in Princes Street, Edinburgh.

The 30-year-old attacked a 36-year-old man near Old Waverley Hotel at about 6.45pm yesterday.

Edinburgh Evening News was sent a photo of the area where the incident happened showing police had cordoned off the entrance to the hotel.

The attacker is due to appear in court.

A police spokeswoman said: "A 30-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with an assault on a 36-year-old man on Princes Street, Edinburgh around 6.45pm on Tuesday 21 April.

“He will appear at court at a later date. A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal."
