Man arrested for stealing £40,000 worth of bicycles in Edinburgh

The thief allegedly raided garages, sheds and storage units across the city.

Police have confirmed a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged over the theft of £40,000-worth of high-valued bicycles.

A police spokeswoman said: "At the beginning of December 2019, high valued bikes totalling almost £40,000 were stolen from garages, sheds and bike storage units across Edinburgh.

"Officers from the south west of Edinburgh carried out enquiries resulting in all but two of the bikes being traced and returned to their owners.

"On 7th January 2020, a 19 year old man was traced, arrested and charged with multiple acquisitive offences. He was held in custody to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court."
