Man charged over murder at Pennywell Road

A man has been charged following the murder of a woman at a flat in Pennywell.

Police responded to a call at an address in Pennywell Road at around 10am on Tuesday where a woman was discovered dead in a flat.

They also found a man injured in the same flat.

On Wednesday it was reported that a man had been arrested in connection with the death, which police were treating as ‘suspicious’.

The deceased was named as Marie Walker, 61.

A 62-year-old man is scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later today.

Detective Inspector Susan Balfour of the Major Investigation Team said the murder had rocked the community: “We recognise that this incident was of great shock to the local community. We are satisfied this is an isolated matter and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.”
