Man faces deportation after Waverley Mall blitz

A MAN faces being deported after being arrested as part of a crackdown on antisocial behaviour at the former Princes Mall.

Police have stepped up patrols after a surge in troublemaking at the recently refurbished Waverley Mall.

The fightback was launched earlier this month after more than 50 reports of issues in the area were reported from March 16.

Amongst seven arrests was a foreign national who was wanted on a European arrest warrant for a violent sexual offence.

The sort of incidents reported include youths gathering in large numbers - disturbances, vandalism, drug offences and blocking entrances to the train station, causing nuisance to rail passengers,

A spokesman from Police Scotland said: “Officers from our local and national violence reduction units have been deployed to Princes Mall to assist with curbing issues of antisocial behaviour and the misuse of drugs.

“Officers will continue to be around the mall over the next few weeks.”
