DALKEITH:

On Monday, April 13, police were called to an address in St Andrews Street, Dalkeith in relation to a man having entered a property, assaulting the occupier and leaving with their TV. On police arrival a 36-year-old man was apprehended with the TV as he attempted to leave in a taxi. The man responsible was arrested during which time he attempted to swallow a quantity of drugs. The man was charged with robbery, obstruction and Section 38 Criminal Justice and Licencing Scotland Act 2010. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Monday, April 13, Road Traffic Officers stopped a Volkswagen Golf in High Street, Dalkeith. While speaking with the 23-year-old driver they detected a smell of cannabis emanating from the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and a quantity of cannabis recovered from within. A roadside drug wipe was also carried out with a positive result. The male driver was arrested and conveyed to St Leonards Police station where he failed the station procedure and was held until fit for release. He has been charged with a Section 4 and 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. A summons report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Monday, April 13, Road Traffic officers carried out a check of a Mercedes C Class travelling East on the A6094 near Salters Road, Dalkeith. The check revealed that the 31-year-old male driver did not hold a current MOT or valid insurance certificate for the vehicle. The vehicle was seized by police and the man was charged with driving his vehicle without an MOT and insurance. A report for summons has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Thursday, April 16, officers received a call in relation to an ongoing disturbance at two neighbouring addresses in Woodburn Road, Dalkeith. A number of persons were seen both inside and outside the properties intoxicated and not adhering to the social distancing guidelines. Whilst attempting to break-up the parties some of the occupants become obstructive and challenged police to a fight. After a short foot chase three men were apprehended. A 27-year-old man was charged with a Section 38 of the Criminal Justice and Licencing Scotland Act 2010 and resisting arrest. A 22-year-old man was charged with a Section 38 of the Criminal Justice and Licencing Scotland Act 2010. Both men were reported by summons to the Procurator Fiscal. Three other persons were also issued with fixed penalty tickets for Breach of COVID 19 regulations.

On Thursday, April 16, Road traffic officers stopped and carried out checks on a motorcycle travelling on Edinburgh Road, Dalkeith. The checks revealed the 23-year-old driver did not hold insurance for his vehicle. He was cautioned and charged in relation to the offence and a summons report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Friday, April 17, officers were called to an address on Woodburn Road, Dalkeith in relation to a noisy party where persons were not adhering to social distancing guidelines. Having previously attended the same address the previous day, officers attempted to speak with the occupier who refused them entry. Due to a further call reporting a man being assaulted within the premises, entry was forced. Once inside, officers found the door to the living room was also barricaded and again entry had to be forced. On gaining entry, one of the persons at the party assaulted an officer and others refused to desist when repeatedly asked. Due to this the 19-year-old occupier was arrested and conveyed to St Leonards Police Station where he was charged with culpable and reckless behaviour. A further 20-year-old man was issued with his second fixed penalty ticket for breach of COVID 19 regulations, a 19-year-old man was charged with breach of COVID 19 regulations, police assault and vandalism to a police vehicle, and a 23-year-old man was also charged with his second fixed penalty ticket for breaching COVID 19 regulations. Reports will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Tuesday, April 14, officers were called to an address at Kippielaw Road, Dalkeith in relation to a neighbour dispute. On arrival officers carried out enquiries and a man was charged with a Section 38 Criminal Justice and Licencing (Scotland) Act 2010 for homophobic behaviour. A summons report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Wednesday, April 15, officers stopped a vehicle travelling on the Beeches, Newtongrange. Checks on the vehicle revealed that the 57-year-old man did not hold a valid certificate of insurance for the vehicle. The driver has been charged and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

GOREBRIDGE:

On Monday, April 13, a 31-year-old man was observed by officers driving a grey Ford Focus on Lauder Road, Dalkeith, who they believed to be driving without a valid driver’s licence. The vehicle was lost to sight but was traced a short time later being driven by the same man in Hillside Crescent, Gorebridge. Officers carried out checks that revealed the man did not hold a substantive drivers licence or insurance for the vehicle. The vehicle was subsequently seized and the man arrested and charged with the relevant road traffic offences.

On Tuesday, April 14, a call was made to police in relation to a man who had climbed scaffolding outside a building on Main Street, Gorebridge and accessed a private property. The man was observed to exit the property a short time later where he fell from the scaffolding to his injury. On police arrival a 29-year-old man was found lying at the foot of the scaffolding with a number of injuries and a bag containing stolen property was found next to him. The man was arrested and conveyed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment. A report for theft by housebreaking is being submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Wednesday, April 15 officers were called to St Andrews Way, Gorebridge in relation to a disturbance. On arrival officers found a 35-year-old woman with serious injuries to her arm. The woman was conveyed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment and further enquiries were carried out to trace the named 20-year-old female culprit. This woman was arrested a short time later and charged with a serious assault. A Bail Undertaking report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Wednesday, April 15, officers attended at Tesco, Hardengreen, in relation to a reported shoplifting. On route officers observed a 25-year-old woman at a bus stop near to Tesco matching the description passed on by the store’s security. On speaking with her, officers observed she was also in possession of the reported stolen items. Enquiries confirmed that this was the woman responsible and she was charged with theft and issued with a recorded police warning.

On Saturday, April 18, police were called to reports of a house party at Hogarth Avenue, Gorebridge. On arrival officers dispersed several persons from the address and warned them if they were to breach social distancing guidelines again they would be fined. A short time later police were called to another address at The Crescent, Gowkshill, where a 22-year-old man, who had been present at the address earlier in Hogarth Avenue, was again found socialising and in clear breach of guidelines. He was removed from the premises and issued with a fixed penalty ticket for Breach of COVID 19 Regulations.

On Saturday, April 18, a 49-year-old man contacted police to seek guidance on an unrelated matter. During this time he was reminded of the social distancing guidelines and given the appropriate advice. Later the same day the man was traced at another address and officers removed him and returned him to his home address during which time he became argumentative and stated he was refusing to abide by the social guidelines currently in place. The man continued with his argumentative behaviour and was reminded that he had also been found a few days before some distance from his address and had been given a warning from police. Again he refused to acknowledge he had breached guidelines and could see no wrong in his behaviour. The man was issued with a fixed penalty ticket for his non-compliance of the COVID 19 Regulations.

On Wednesday, April 15, officers were on mobile patrol when they observed a Honda Civic motor car parked in Dalhousie Gardens, Lasswade. On approaching the vehicle officers detected a strong smell of cannabis emanating from the vehicle. The 22-year-old male driver and his vehicle was searched and a personal quantity of cannabis recovered. The man was issued with a recorded police warning.

PENICUIK:

On Monday, April 13, a 30-year-old man was apprehended by staff when he attempted to leave Lidl with a quantity of meat. The man struggled with staff members and made attempts to punch them. On police arrival the manle was arrested and charged with theft shoplifting and assault. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Friday, April 17, police were called to attend at The Avenue, in relation to a Volkswagen van which had been vandalised. A man was observed to drive into the street, exit his vehicle and smash the van with a hammer whilst jumping on the bonnet. The man made off prior to police arrival. The vehicles registration was passed to officers who attended at the home address of the owner who matched the description of the culprit by witnesses. Further enquiries confirmed the 25-year-old man as being responsible, he was arrested and charged with vandalism. A summons report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Saturday, April 18, an 18-year-old woman was reported missing by staff from Parkhead Lodge. She was traced later the same day to an address in the Mayfield area. She was issued with a fixed penalty ticket for breach of COVID 19 Regulations. This was the woman’s third ticket in three days as she repeatedly ignored the advice given to her and showed a blatant disregard with adhering to the social distancing guidelines.
