Here is your weekly round-up of crime in Midlothian, for January 18-24, as reported by Police Scotland.

DALKEITH:

On January 23, officers from the Midlothian Community Action Team (MCAT) were in an attendance at an address in St Andrews Street. Whilst awaiting entry to a property they became aware of a 30 year old man smelling strongly of cannabis. He was thereafter searched under terms of the Misuse Of Drugs Act 1971. During the search he was found to be in possession of 25.73g of herbal cannabis and reported accordingly.

DANDERHALL:

On January 19, police were contacted by a motorist stopped at Newton village following an incident whereby their vehicle was struck and damaged badly by another vehicle carrying out an overtaking manoeuvre which then failed to stop. Officers attended and located a 53 year old man nearby with a vehicle described by the caller which had damage consistent with the collision. Following road side procedures this man was subsequently found to have driven under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He was arrested to be released on bail when sober and will appear at court at a later date.

NEWTONGRANGE / MAYFIELD:

On January 24, at Suttislea Place, officers on patrol became aware of a 43 year old man shouting in the street outside a dwelling. When spoken to the man alluded to having an argument with the occupant over drugs. Officers thereafter searched him under the Misuse Of Drugs Act 1971. During the search he was found to be in possession of a bladed article. He was arrested and later released on bail to appear at court at a later date.

GOREBRIDGE:

On January 22, at David Herkes Way, police were alerted to a potential gathering in breach of Covid rules. On attendance, MCAT and community officers spoke to the 21 year old male and 22 year old female householders. The officers were informed that only they (occupiers) were at home. However, on a search of the property eight other persons were found within. Both householders were issued with fixed penalty notices for breaching Covid regulations.

BONNYRIGG:

On January 23, at Willow Avenue, officers attended an incident where upon their arrival a 33 year old volatile and aggressive man made threats to them and sprayed a substance towards them he suggested contained bleach. On his subsequent arrest he resisted violently, assaulting two officers in the process. He was held in custody to appear at court.

PENICUIK:

On January 19, a disturbance and altercation took place at the entry point of one of the town’s supermarkets following a refusal of entry by staff. The disturbance was of such a level the store’s panic alarm was activated and police attended. Two local men aged 21 and 22 were identified, traced, cautioned and charged with threatening behaviour and assault. Both men were reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

On January 20, police were alerted to a gathering of between 20-30 young people at a party in a large privately owned house. On police arrival those present were asked to vacate the property which was thereafter locked and the attendees dispersed. Further enquiry was thereafter carried out by police whereupon it was established that the premises had been booked from the owner under false pretences by a 24 year old man who advertised the evening’s event via social media. The man was subsequently traced, cautioned, charged and reported to the Procurator Fiscal for Reckless Conduct.
