Midlothian crimebeat September 14-20

Here is your weekly round-up of crime in Midlothian, for September 14-20, as reported by Police Scotland.

DALKEITH:

On Thursday, September 17, officers were asked to attend Easthouses Road in relation to a man possibly driving a vehicle possibly under the influence. Officers stopped the vehicle and the 37 year old male driver was arrested and conveyed to St Leonards Police Station where he failed an impairment test. The man was charged with careless driving, having two un-roadworthy tyres and a prohibition notice placed on the vehicle. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Friday, September 18, officers were asked to attend at Tesco, Dalkeith in relation to a shoplifter. Staff had stopped the man and recovered all the stolen items. Officers attended and a 49 year old man was issued with a Recorded Police Warning for Theft Shoplifting.

On Friday, September 18, officers were asked to attend the A68 in relation to a vehicle being driven dangerously. Officers stopped the vehicle and a 37 year old man was arrested after failing an impairment test and conveyed to St Leonards Police Station where he failed a further station impairment test. He was charged with driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, dangerous driving and breach of a prohibition order. He was held in custody to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

On Sunday, September 20, officers were asked to attend Tesco, Dalkeith in relation to a report of theft shoplifting. Officers attended and traced a 43 year old woman who was issued with a Recorded Police Warning.

On Sunday, September 20, officers were on patrol when they stopped a vehicle at Morrison’s, Eskbank Road, Dalkeith. A 29 year old man was found to be driving without insurance. He was charged with driving without insurance and his vehicle uplifted. A report for summons was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Sunday, September 20, officers were asked to attend Morrison, Eskbank Road, Dalkeith in relation to a report that a vehicle was being driven by a man potentially under the influence. Officers stopped the vehicle and a 51 year old man was observed to be under the influence of alcohol. The man refused to provide a roadside breath test and was conveyed to St Leonard’s Police Station where he failed the station breath test and was charged with drink driving. The man was released on a bail undertaking to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in December.

NEWTONGRANGE / MAYFIELD:

On Tuesday, September 15, officers were on patrol in Abbey Grange, Newtongrange when they carried out a vehicle stop and found a 35 year old woman to be driving without insurance. The woman refused to accept a conditional offer and was reported to the Procurator Fiscal by summons. The vehicle was also seized by officers.

On Tuesday, September 15, officers were asked to attend Bogwood Road, Mayfield in relation to a woman being under the influence of drink or drugs bringing attention to herself. Officers traced a 15 year old woman who became aggressive towards officers and thereafter kicked and attempted to bite them. She was taken home and charged with assaulting two police officers. A report has been submitted to the Youth Justice Officer for consideration.

GOREBRIDGE:

On Tuesday, September 15, officers were on patrol in Stobhill Road, Gorebridge when they carried out a vehicle stop. Enquiries found the vehicle had no MOT or tax. A 25 year old man was charged and a report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Saturday, September 19, officers were asked to attend Stobhill Road, Gorebridge in relation to a vehicle with no MOT. Officers attended and traced the vehicle and the 36 year old male driver. He was issued a fixed penalty ticket in relation to driving with no MOT.

On Saturday, September 19, officers were asked to attend Kennington Terrace, Loanhead in relation to a disturbance. A 37 year old man was arrested and charged with threatening and abusive behaviour and conveyed to St Leonards Police Station. He was released from custody on a Bail Undertaking to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.

PENICUIK:

On Tuesday, September 15, officers were asked to attend Terregles Terrace, Penicuik in relation to a disturbance. Officers attended and arrested a 22 year old woman who was charged with threatening and abusive behaviour and an assault. She was conveyed to St Leonards Police Station and released on a Bail Undertaking to attend at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.

On Tuesday, September 15, officers were asked to attend Edinburgh Road, Penicuik in relation to a disturbance. Officers attended and traced two 31 year old men. Both men were issued with a Recorded Police Warnings for Threatening and Abusive Behaviour.

On Thursday, September 17, officers were asked to attend Terregles, Penicuik in relation to a breach of bail. Officers attended and traced a 22 year old female. The woman was arrested and charged for breaching conditions. The woman was conveyed to St Leonards Police Station where she was held to attend Edinburgh Sheriff Court the following day.

On Friday, September 18, officers were asked to attend Ladywood Court, Penicuik in relation to a disturbance. Officers attended and traced a 35 year old man, 30 year old woman and a 36 year old woman. The 35 year old man and 36 year old woman were charged with assault and the 30 year old woman was charged with assault and breaching bail conditions. All three were held in custody to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

On Saturday, September 19, officers were on patrol when they viewed a vehicle switching lanes constantly on the City Bypass. They followed the vehicle as it left the bypass at the Hillend Junction onto Bigger Road, Edinburgh. On stopping the vehicle they found a 22 year old man to be driving. He was asked to provide a sample of breath as there was a strong smell of alcohol emanating from within the vehicle. The man failed the roadside breath test and was arrested and conveyed to St Leonards for the station procedure to be completed. The man also failed the station procedure and was charged with driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. He was held in custody to be released when sober. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Saturday, September 19, officers were asked to attend Carlops Road, Penicuik in relation to a vehicle crash. Officers attended and traced a 28 year old male driver of one of the vehicles. He was cautioned and charged with careless driving. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

On Saturday, September 19, officers were on patrol when they attended The Brae, Auchendinny to carry out a bail curfew check. The man was not within his address however officers traced him a short while later and he was arrested and charged with a bail offence and taken to St Leonards. He was held in custody to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

On Sunday, September 20, officers were asked to attend Terregles Terrace, Penicuik in relation to a breach of bail. Officers attended and arrested and charged a 22 year old woman with breaching her bail conditions. She was conveyed to St Leonards Police Station to attend at Edinburgh Sheriff Court the following day.

BILSTON:

On Sunday, September 20, officers were carrying out traffic patrols at Corby Craig Grove, Bilston when they stopped a 25 year old man riding an off-road motorbike on the road. After carrying out checks it was confirmed that the man had no insurance and no licence. The motorbike was uplifted and the man was charged with possession of controlled drugs, having no licence, no insurance and driving an off-road motorbike. A report for summons was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
