Morningside Road crash: Boy, 3, dies after being hit by car

A three-year-old boy has died after a car crashed into a charity shop in Edinburgh.
The toddler and a 37-year-old woman were both hit when a Kia Picanto crashed into St Columba’s Hospice shop in Morningside Road at about 2.30pm on Tuesday.

Hide AdBoth pedestrians were rushed to hospital where the young boy died and the woman is being treated for her injuries.
Witnesses to the incident described the crash as “horrendous.”
One local resident said: “I heard it as I was taking the recycling out. It is just around the corner from me.
"When I got there, there were people screaming.
“It was obvious that the car had mounted the pavement and hit pedestrians.
"People were comforting others.

Morningside Road was closed in both directions between Springvalley Gardens to Morningside Park as police, ambulance services and fire crews assisted with the serious incident.
Traffic remained slow for most of the afternoon and buses were diverted.
Inspector Roger Park of Edinburgh Road Policing Unit said: "The heartfelt thoughts of my colleagues and I remain with the families involved in this absolutely tragic incident. We are providing support to the family and I would ask that the privacy of those involved are respected at this time.
