The Edinburgh Northern and Leith MSP took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon to share the images of the front door to his office, with the word ‘resign’ written twice in large lettering.

Following the incident the minister for rural affairs and the natural environment called for “political parties, the media, everyone” to engage in “respectful dialogue” regardless of disagreements, saying he was “sad” to see the damage that had been caused.

His tweet read: “I’m sad to say that my office has been vandalised & I’m spending this afternoon cleaning it off.

"Offline & online, I think we all - political parties, the media, everyone - should try to engage in respectful dialogue, despite our disagreements, & dial it down a bit. #KeepTheHeid”

Police Scotland have been contacted for a comment on the incident.
