'Mindless' paint attack on Dunbar storefront leaves pet business 'devastated'
Dunbar Pet Food is urging the culprit of the “needless” incident to come forward
A Dunbar pet shop is “absolutely devastated” after vandals threw yellow paint over their storefront last night.
CCTV footage captured by Dunbar Pet Food reportedly shows the paint being splashed over its windows and doors, which were decorated ready for Halloween, at around 7:45pm on Tuesday, October 27.
“We have spent since six o’clock this morning scraping it all off,” said Nicola Urquhart, who works at the West Port shop.

She added: “It’s just so needless I cannot understand why someone would do something like this to a local business that’s been in the town for over forty years.”
While they have managed to remove the yellow paint splatters from the shop windows, work on repainting the shop entrance will have to wait until tonight.
The quiet East Lothian street recently witnessed a break-in but Ms Urquhart said these kinds of incidents “do not happen a lot in Dunbar”.
Owner Murray Glass is appealing for whoever vandalised the storefront to come forward before they share the footage with police later today.
The business says the community has been “lovely” since the incident, rallying around the independent pet shop and offering support in any way they can.
Ms Urquhart said: “Our customers have been coming past saying they’re angry and disappointed.”

When the shop appealed for more information on social media, their comment sections were filled with sympathetic messages about the “mindless” incident.
One poster said: “This is completely senseless. Why even bother? I really enjoy Dunbar for the sense of community there is in the most part. This seems to knock it somewhat.”
Another added: “ What's wrong with people? You always do the decent thing for the community and don't deserve this.”
Reports of vandalism across East Lothian are at five year high, according to the latest data from Police Scotland.
In the year ending June 2026, 833 incidents were reported to Police, a 25 per cent increase from the year prior.
Vandalism can be reported to Police Scotland on 101 or via their website.
