Penicuik YMCA: Dykes Road property cordoned off after incident sparks major police response

A property in Penicuik has been cordoned off this afternoon amid an ongoing incident that prompted a major response from all three emergency services.

Police were called to the house on Dykes Road, close to the YMCA, at around 12:15pm on Wednesday, after concerns were raised for a person’s wellbeing.

Photos from the scene show multiple police vehicles outside the property, along with fire crews and paramedics.

One local resident said police officers had cordoned off the scene and were scouring the area dressed in protective suits.

A spokesperson for the force told the Evening News: “Around 12.15 pm on Wednesday, 12 May, 2021, police attended a concern for a person call at a property in Dykes Road, Penicuik.

“A 24-year-old man left the house with the Scottish Ambulance Service.”

They added: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) have also been contacted for comment.
