Police called out twice to youths swimming near Edinburgh lighthouse

Police Scotland has been called out twice to deal with youths near the lighthouse at Newhaven.

Both incidents took place yesterday when officers were alerted to activity in the water.

They responded at 4.55pm and 7pm.

Locals contacted the Evening News to say they saw several police vehicles in the area.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed both call-outs involved ‘youths in the water near the lighthouse’.

She added: “There was a parent with them and they were not in any danger.

“Police gave them advice. There was no need for an ambulance, it was more just to give them a word.”
