Edinburgh City Council has confirmed that the decision was made to board up the shelters due to a ‘significant increase’ in antisocial behaviour linked to groups sitting in the shelters drinking, which has caused concern particularly during the ongoing pandemic.

Following the groups gathering in the shelter, staff who tend to Princes Street Gardens have regularly had to deal with cleaning up human excrement and waste.
