A man is in hospital with serious injuries after an early morning assault that the police are treating as attempted murder.

The 55-year-old man was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as stable.

Emergency services received reports of an assault on Ravenscroft Street in Gilmerton at around 1.45 am on Saturday, September 12.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.45am on Saturday, 12 September, police received reports of a serious assault on Ravenscroft Street in Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and a 55-year-old man was found to have suffered serious injuries, he was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he remains in a stable condition.

“Enquiries into the incident, which is being treated as attempted murder, are ongoing.”
