Rise in number of lockdown breachers in Edinburgh

Police have reported a slight increase in the number of people who have flouted the lockdown rules in Edinburgh.

Latest weekly figures show that 3030 people in the capital were informed by officers that they were breaking lockdown rules – up 47 from the previous week.

All dispersed when informed by officers of the breach, with no further action taken.

A further 415 people dispersed when instructed to by police – the same number as the week before.

Police had to use “reasonable force” to move on another 44 people. Again, the same number was again recorded the week before.

Latest figures also show that 167 people in Edinburgh were also given a Fixed Penalty Notice for breaching lockdown rules – up two from the week before.

In the seven days until Friday, June 10, police made 14 arrests in Edinburgh under laws in place to limit the spread of coronavirus. This was up one from the week before.
