Police Scotland confirmed that a 58-year-old man was found on Salisbury Crags, Queens Drive around 1.20 pm.

A spokesperson confirmed that the death of Mr Bell was not being treated as suspicious and a post mortem examination could be carried out to determine how he died.

A 'sudden death' report is being prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.

Sean Bell was at one point a Senior Manager working with children with disabilities in the council.

A council spokesman said: “We were aware that one of our former employees, Sean Bell, was being investigated by Police Scotland at the time of his death.

"We were working closely with the Police and he had been suspended from his position.

“Both the police and our own investigations remain ongoing and we are unable to comment further at this time.”

Alleged victims of Mr Bell told The Scottish Sun that they were disappointed that they would never get to face him in court.

One of the women interviewed in The Scottish Sun claimed that she reported Mr Bell more than 20 years ago in 1998 when she was 22-years-old, and that nothing was done.
