The schoolboy became unwell after he and two pals had paid the dealer £10 each to collect a quantity of the drug while they were at a party in Midlothian.

The lad was violently sick and all three teens who had ingested the drug were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment and a check up.

The 17-year-old who bought the Ketamine was then traced and arrested by police after the boys divulged to officers who they had been supplied by.

The teenager appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and pled guilty to culpably and recklessly supplying the powder he believed to be Ketamine to his three friends at Mayfield, Midlothian last year.

The court was told all four teenagers involved had been friends since primary school and three of them were at a party on August 9 last year when they decided to buy the drug.

They took the white powder but soon felt unwell and the youngest of the group started to vomit.

All three were rushed to hospital and police then attended at the 17-year-old’s home at around 1am the next morning.

He was said to have been “extremely upset” after being told what had happened to his three friends.

Defending lawyer Kevin Connor said his client was only 16 at the time of the offence and though he had experimented with the drug previously he had not taken any illegal substances since the incident.

The lawyer added that Disclosure Scotland were currently considering adding him to the list of those banned from working with children and vulnerable groups.

Sheriff Adrian Cottam said: “I am not going to lecture you as I can guess from everything that has happened that you will no doubt have been lectured by your own parents and probably had a similar lecture from the parents of your friends.

“You are intelligent, by the looks of the report, and you know the risk as to what could have happened to your friends with regard to the taking of illegal substances.”

Sheriff Cottam fined the 17-year-old labourer, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, a total of £600.
