Two men have been arrested following reports of an assault on a 70-year-old man who was left bloodied and beaten following an attack in a Home Bargains store.

Yesterday, the Daily Record reported that eyewitnesses said that the pensioner was battered in an aisle of the shop which is located on Niddrie Mains Road and showed images of him bleeding from the face while being assisted by staff and witnesses.

Staff members of the discount shop contacted the police who launched an investigation and this morning have announced that two men, aged 23 and 41, have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

The elderly man attended Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but has been released.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers received a report of an assault having taken place on Niddrie Mains Road, Edinburgh around 11:50am on Wednesday, 5 August, 2020.“Two men, aged 23 and 41, have been arrested and charged in connection.“A 70-year-old man attended Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment, and has since been released.”A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
