Uphall Golf Club: Major fire at West Lothian golf course

Firefighters spent more than 12 hours dealing with a major fire at a golf course in West Lothian.

Flames ripped through Uphall Golf Club, Uphall, at about 1.30am on Saturday causing severe damage to the property.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed ten appliances were sent to extinguish the fire which has been described as “very serious” and “well-developed.”

Pictures of the scene show the building ablaze in the early horus of the morning, while some taken this morning show extensive damage as been caused to the club’s roof. According to police and the fire service, no casualties have been reported so far.

One witness said he heard that the clubhouse has been “gutted” overnight due to the major fire.

It is understood that the main road at Dechmont and Miller’s Bridge was closed as emergency services dealt with the ongoing fire until shortly after 3pm on Saturday.

A spokesman from the golf club said: “We are saddened to advise that there has been a very serious fire at the Golf Club overnight.

“Emergency services have been in attendance and as we write this, the main road is closed at Dechmont and Miller’s Bridge. We are not aware of any injuries.

“We do not have any details as to the circumstances and the final extent of the damage, but we will do everything we can to keep you advised as things hopefully become clearer later in the day.

“The course will be closed today. Whilst it may be tempting for members to come to the club to see for themselves, we have been asked by the police to require members to stay out of the area.

“This is obviously dreadful news and we will issue a further update at the earliest possible opportunity.”

A spokeswoman from SFRS said investigations are ongoing into the cause of the fire.

She said: “We were alerted at 1.35am to reports of a building fire in Uphall, West Lothian.

"Operations control mobilised ten appliances.

"Firefighters were met with a well-developed fire.

"No casualties have been reported so far.”

She confirmed fire crews left the scene at about 3.15pm.

A police spokesman said that the cause of the major fire remains unconfirmed at this time.
