Vandals set fire to car parked on Edinburgh street in deliberate act

Residents reported hearing a loud bang at the time of the incident.

Residents were disturbed by a loud bang after a car was set on fire in what police have confirmed as a deliberate act.

The vehicle was parked in Oxgangs Road, Edinburgh, when it was torched at about 11pm on Friday, 18 September.

An investigation has been launched to find those responsible for causing significant damage to the car.

One passerby said he and his neighbours were disturbed by what sounded like an explosion at the time of the vehicle fire.

No one was injured in the incident.

A police spokeswoman said: “At about 11.10pm on Friday, 18 September, police were called to a report that a car was on fire in Oxgangs Drive, Edinburgh.

"No one was injured but there was significant damage to a car.

"Police are treating the incident as wilful, with the car deliberately set alight, and enquiries are continuing."
