Vandals set fire to children's playground swing at Edinburgh park

A swing at a children’s playground in the Capital has been damaged after being set on fire by vandals.

Edinburgh City Council was notified about the criminal act, which happened in Saughton Park on Wednesday evening.

Concerned resident Helen Ryan spotted the damaged swing on Thursday while walking in the park with her granddaughter.

She said: "I visited the park today and was disgusted to find when in the playing park that some scum had set fire to one of the children’s swings.”

Cllr Donald Wilson said: “It is extremely disappointing to see deliberate damage to our playpark at Saughton Park, which is not only disruptive, but costs money to rectify.

“This kind of a behaviour is completely unacceptable and it’s a real shame that children visiting the park have to suffer because of the damage caused by a few. I would encourage anyone who may have information on the incident to contact the Police.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
