Victim left with 'potentially life-changing' injuries after three men attack him in Edinburgh street

An urgent public appeal has been launched after a man was left with “potentially life-changing” injuries after being attacked by three other men in what police are describing as a “a violent and unprovoked attack” in Edinburgh.

The incident happened between 11pm and 11.30pm on Saturday, 25 July on Drum Street in the Gilmerton area of Edinburgh, close to Gilmerton crossroads, when a group of three men attacked a 29-year-old man

The victim is being treated at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries.

One concerned resident, posting in the Evening NewsCrime and Breaking Incidents Facebook group said that there were two police cars and “plenty” of tape in the early hours of Sunday morning at the scene.

The group of three men left the area in the direction of Newtoft Street. One of them is described as being in his 30s, 6ft with a muscular build and short dark hair. He was wearing a white top, dark trousers and dark shoes.

DC Dale Miles, from Edinburgh CID, said: “This was a violent and unprovoked attack, which has left the victim with serious and potentially life-changing injuries.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious to come forward.”
