Warning after prisoner escapes guards while being escorted to Edinburgh hospital

Police have launched a manhunt after a prisoner escaped guards yesterday during a visit to an Edinburgh hospital.

Steven Ross escaped while on escort from HMP Addiewell in Livingston to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, at about 5:20pm on Wednesday March 11th.

It is believed that he has links to the Greater Glasgow area and other parts of Scotland.

Police said “significant enquiries are being undertaken” in an attempt to trace the prisoner.Steven Ross is described as white, 5ft 9ins in height, of slim build and with dark brown hair with a distinctive tramline. When last seen he was wearing dark coloured shorts, dark coloured jumper and Nike trainers with a distinctive lime green sole. He is also believed to have a a blue three-quarter length jacket in his possession.

A police statement released today said: “Police are advising members of the public not to approach Mr Ross if they see him but to contact police immediately.

“Anyone who has seen him since 5.20 pm on Wednesday on 11 March or anyone who knows of his present whereabouts should contact police via 101, or in an emergency on 999. Please quote incident number 2686 of 11 March 2020.

“Information can also be passed via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.”
