The aircraft was spotted circling the north of the city, particularly around Restalrig and Leith, at about 11.30pm on Tuesday, December 15.

One resident said they could hear a helicopter “buzzing loud and low” above the city’s rooftops while several commenters on social media complained about the noise waking them up late at night.

She took footage of the aircraft flying above the Edinburgh park and posted it on Twitter.

Police have confirmed the helicopter was linked to an ongoing operation in the Edinburgh area, but would not confirm further details.

A police spokesman said: “Officers are currently carrying out enquiries, including the execution of warrants, in the Edinburgh area in connection with an ongoing operation.”
