Woman attacked by 'white van man' who brandished weapon and tried to goad her into fight in Musselburgh

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man brandished a weapon and attacked a woman on a busy Musselburgh street.

The incident happened at about 4.15pm on Thursday, June 17.

A 28-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were walking between New Street, Musselburgh and Lochend Road North, when they were targeted by a man who was the passenger in a white Ford Transit Connect style works van.

The suspect then tried to goad the victim to fight whilst driving past several times.

He then jumped out of the van brandishing a weapon before assaulting the woman.

The suspect is male, caucasian with a tan complexion, approximately 20 years old, around 5ft11 - 6ft tall, athletic build, with a buzzcut hairstyle with squared off fringe, wearing a white T-Shirt, grey work trousers and work boots.

Police say he possibly possibly lives in, or was working in New Street, Musselburgh.
