Diabetic trio saddle up for bike ride

A TRIO of work colleagues from Edinburgh who have type 1 diabetes will cycle to the Capital from Glasgow to raise money to help find a cure for the condition.

Murray Reid, an employee at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in March 2010 and has since discovered that two of his colleagues, Jill Jeffries and Phil Derbyshire, also have the condition.

With statistics showing that one in 175 people develops type 1 diabetes, it is unusual for three people in an office of just 30 to have been diagnosed.

Murray, Jill and Phil will take part in Pedal for Scotland next month in aid of medical research charity Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

They will be joined by 17 other RBS employees for the 51-mile cycle on September 11.
