Disabled bowlers team up for exhibition

Some of Scotland’s leading bowlers are to compete with members of the national team who brought back a clutch of medals from the International Bowls for the Disabled (IBD) World Championships.

The inaugural Jack High Insurance International Bowls Exhibition Match will see bowlers with a disability compete against their mainstream counterparts at Bellsburn Bowling Club, Linlithgow on Saturday. Among those in action will be former World Indoor Champion, Linlithgow’s Gary Smith, CEO of the governing body World Bowls, as well as fellow internationalists Grant and Calum Logan (Kirkliston) and Ewan Shearer (Bo’ness).

The showcase event is the brainchild of Scottish Disability Sport’s international bowler Gary Clelland, whose aim is to promote lawn bowls to people with a disability.

It is hoped that the tournament, supported by Jack High Insurance, Lothian Disability Sport and West Lothian Council – the main sponsors of the competition – will become an annual event.

The competition starts at 10am and will be finished around 5pm. Entry is free and there is wheelchair access.
