Drivers narrowly avoided a serious accident when a tree fell on Queen Street on Sunday afternoon.

It is believed no one was hurt.

One eyewitness said: "It just came down right between the cars on Queen Street in front of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.

"Luckily, no one was injured and there was only minor damage.

"If it had been a metre the other side it would have crushed one of the cars - so it could have been very serious."

Police officers arrived soon after and cordoned off the area until the tree could be removed.
