Drugs bags
man dodges station cops

A MAN who dropped two bags and fled Waverley Station when he saw police carrying out searches as part of a festive crime crackdown left behind £10,000 of herbal cannabis.

Police are now hunting the man after the drugs were recovered on Wednesday.

The suspect is described as being black, aged between 20 to 30, wearing tan/fawn coloured shoes and a dark jacket and trousers.

The joint operation between Lothian and Borders Police and British Transport Police at Waverley and Edinburgh Bus Station was part of Operation Astrodome, the festive anti-crime initiative in the city
centre.

Specialist officers and police dogs conducted a number of searches of people and property.

Inspector Gill Geany said: “This operation was put in place to ensure people coming into Edinburgh can enjoy
all that the city has to offer safely.

“This is a great result and I hope that, with the public’s help, we will trace the suspect who these drugs belong to.

“We will continue to carry out high-visibility patrols, while also using CCTV and other crime detection and prevention techniques in order to deter criminality and ensure members of the public are kept safe.”
