Drunk driver avoids jail after teasing

A MOTORIST caught driving at nearly three times the legal limit has escaped jail after a court heard he’d been the butt of prisoners’ jokes because of his “personal attributes”.

William McInnes, 60, had been remanded in custody for a second drink driving offence because he committed it while he was on bail for the first one month earlier.

In his latest incident, Mr McInnes, of Blackburn, West Lothian, crashed into a traffic island in the early hours of the morning. He had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of drink driving and served the equivalent of a 30-day sentence in custody. Kevin Dugan, defending: “It’s not been an easy time for him because he’s been the subject of some humour in the prison because of his personal attributes.”

He was fined £400 and banned from driving for three years.
