DVLA issues 15,000 fines

NEARLY 15,000 motorists from the Lothians have been fined for failing to renew the road tax on their vehicles during the last two years, running up fines of at least £580,000.

Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) figures showed that 14,491 fines had been handed out between July 6, 2009 and July 31 this year.

The DVLA issues late licence penalties to registered keepers of vehicles if they fail to pay road tax on time, or declare a vehicle off-road.
