East Lothian garden centre blames 'crippling' rising costs as it enters liquidation after 32 years
An East Lothian garden centre will close its doors citing rising costs and ‘constant roadworks’.
Strawberry Corner Garden Centre was a popular family owned shop for gardeners, but the team behind the Wallyford garden centre has announced that “with great sadness” they will close.
Bosses at the centre said rising costs after the Covid pandemic have been “crippling”, with the roadworks outside the garden centre said to have reduced footfall “dramatically”.
Posting on Facebook, the team wrote: “We tried tirelessly to make things work but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
“We would like to thank each and every one of you who shopped with us over the past 32 years, many of you became friends. We can only apologise that this has been cut short and we will no longer be part of the East Lothian community.
“To our staff past and present, who many of were more like family, we will always be grateful.”

The team behind the garden centre said they are “heartbroken” to announce that the company will now enter liquidation, bringing an end to what they described as a “lifetime’s work”.
“As a family, we are absolutely heartbroken that our lifetimes work has ended this way, however it has been out with our control, and the company is now in liquidation.”
The garden centre originally opened in 1947 as Tollcross Huts in Edinburgh, but moved to its current location in Wallyford, and was renamed as Strawberry Corner Garden Centre, in 1994.
The business specialised in bulk supplies for large projects to hand-picked selections for your garden.
