easyJet has announced the launch of a new route from Edinburgh Airport to London Southend Airport – with flights departing for the first time this autumn.

Launching on October 25, the new route will operate twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays.

Fares will start from £23.99 - a price which gives passengers a "seamless choice”, according to Stephanie Wear, chief commercial officer at Edinburgh Airport.

She said: “Making it easy to travel across the UK is a priority for us, so it’s fantastic to see another direct route to London added. It gives passengers more seamless choice, and we’re delighted easyJet has partnered with us to deliver it.”

Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK country manager, said easyJet is committed to increasing regional connectivity, adding to flights from Edinburgh to the rest of the UK.

He said: “We are delighted to announce another new route from Edinburgh and even more package holidays this winter, providing customers with even more choice from their local airport, all with great value and fantastic service.

“We are committed to providing our customers across the UK with greater regional connectivity as well as supporting inbound tourism.

“Whether our customers are travelling for business or leisure, they can now book an even greater range of destinations with confidence, and we look forward to welcoming them on board.”

The new route joins easyJet’s existing domestic network from Edinburgh, which includes services to Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, City of Derry Airport, Jersey, London Gatwick, London Luton, and London Stansted.
