However, in a Facebook post sharing today’s column from Hayley Matthews criticising the handling of the homelessness around the Royal Wedding, one reader, having clearly heard too much from news organisations about the event, responded with a campaign of her own.

“There is no harm in having an obsession. Except yours is with something a bit pointless, and not really linked to Edinburgh.

“My lovely cat lives in Edinburgh. Please feel free to alter the focus of your obsession and choose cats instead.

“All the best, A reader.”

The comment was liked by many others on the page with Adam Rosa simply writing: “Seconded”
