Edinburgh flight diverted after mid-air emergency

A flight from Edinburgh to London was diverted to Manchester Airport this morning after declaring a mid-air emergency following a suspected technical fault.

The FlyBe passenger plane was due to arrive at London’s City Airport around 9am after departing Edinburgh at 7.30 but flight-trackers showed it had broadcast an emergency code.

Shortly after take-off, the propellor aircraft landed at Manchester Airport as a precautionary measure.

A spokesman told STV: “The aircraft landed safely without further incident and, as is normal in such circumstances, was met by the airport’s emergency vehicles.

“Once on stand, all 63 passengers disembarked as normal. They will be re-accommodated on the next available flight operated by an alternate aircraft.

“The safety of its passengers and crew is the airline’s number one priority and Flybe apologises for the inconvenience experienced.”
