Edinburgh stars in colouring book for grown-ups

IT is the tiny details that will truly bring them to life '“ bright coloured fireworks, a classic red phone box and rich green bamboo shoots destined for a panda's mouth.

Some of Edinburgh’s most quirky streets, tourist attractions and long-standing pubs all feature in a new colouring book for grown-ups – along with a couple of zoo animals.

Also featuring iconic landmarks – including Edinburgh Castle, St Giles’ Cathedral, and Arthur’s Seat – the images are in The Scotland Colouring Book, published by the History Press.

Holly Kirkham, from the publisher, said: “Adult colouring has been on the rise recently, as part of a wider ‘digital detox’, offering an alternative way to switch off and absorb yourself in a creative task. We decided it would be exciting to see a new series of colouring books with a regional theme. Given the natural stunning scenery and landmarks of Scotland, it was inevitable we would choose the country.”

Among the images of Edinburgh is a busy shot looking up Victoria Street, a man having a drink in Deacon Brodie’s Tavern in the Lawnmarket and Edinburgh Zoo’s world famous pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guang chomping on some bamboo.

The ruins of Craigmillar Castle also appear, as do scenes from across the country, including a sunset on the Isle of Arran and Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness.

Ms Kirkham said: “The areas chosen will appeal to both tourists and locals alike. The book features a wide range of 45 iconic images of Scotland – from freshwater lochs and wooded glens to majestic mountains, granite cities and medieval castles. They are full of detail to make them all the more interesting and challenging to colour in.”
