A BOOK has been launched recounting the memories of eight Leithers.

Leith – and Beyond has been produced by the Citadel Arts Group and tells the stories of residents from the Jameson Place Sheltered Housing Complex.

A launch event was held at the complex, with pupils from nearby St Mary’s Primary School singing for residents.

The book is littered with tales of carbolic soap, children’s games, school days and the Second World War and highlights the changing face of Leith over the years, from building ships to going dancing at the Eldorado.

Elaine Edwards, scheme co-ordinator at the complex, said: “It is nice for the children and staff to hear stories of the past from the tenants and tales of things we’ll never experience.

The book stars Jameson Place residents Barbara Melrose, Annie Bell, Babs Jamieson, Anne Nicol, Isa Pak, Jessie Tierney, Walter Paterson and Marilyn Paterson.
