Approval given for residential-led development at Edinburgh Park

The new development will lie to the south of Edinburgh Park

Parabola’s proposals for the southern phase of Edinburgh Park also include 43,000 square metres of commercial space, a 170-bedroom apartment hotel, a public square and extensive parkland.

The city council’s development management sub-committee has granted planning consent for the 43-acre site with a total of 1,737 new homes.

Parabola have said they want to create a new “zero carbon” urban quarter with an emphasis on sustainable transport and low levels of car parking.

The Edinburgh tram line runs through the site and the development will be served by two tram stops, Edinburgh Park Central and Edinburgh Park Station.

The new homes, mostly flats of varying sizes, will be a mix of private residential, build-to-rent and affordable homes.

Delivery of the development is expected is to be phased. The company has previously said a priority will be to realise the affordable element of the scheme, which makes up 25 per cent of the total housing.

The public square will be sited next to the existing Edinburgh Park station and close to the apart-hotel and a three-screen arts cinema.

The go-ahead for the southern phase comes in the same week that the company confirmed its first speculative office building at Edinburgh Park, 1 New Park Square, is about to be “topped out” in a virtual ceremony.

Mr Hordon said: “Interest in 1 New Park Square is exceptional and we are delighted we can advance with the residential aspect of our plans and deliver an exceptional new quarter of the city.”
