COP26 RECAP: Updates as crunch UN climate conference gets underway
The Queen has issued a rallying cry to world leaders attending Cop26 urging them to work together in “common cause” to tackle climate change and “solve the most insurmountable problems”.
In a video message played during a welcoming reception for presidents and prime ministers, she hoped the summit’s legacy would be that they recognised “the time for words has now moved to the time for action”.
Glasgow Police have released a statement about the docking of Greenpeace’s ship, The Rainbow Warrior, at the King George V Docks in Glasgow.
Assistant Chief Constable Gary Ritchie said: “The Rainbow Warrior is now docked at the King George V docks in Glasgow; this area is not within the exclusion zone in place for COP26.
“The action taken to facilitate the passage of the Rainbow Warrior was in consultation with the harbour authority and entirely in line with Police Scotland’s stated approach to facilitate peaceful protest during the course of the conference.
“As the vessel has not breached any of the COP26 restrictions, any subsequent action or investigation will be led by the harbour authority.”
