RESIDENTS living near a crude oil storage site are being warned of an alarm test tomorrow.

The Dalmeny Community Warning System will be tested at 11.30am and 1.30pm on Thursday, November 21.

A statement from owners Ineos reads: "The community warning system is installed across the Dalmeny area to help communicate with the public in the event of an emergency on the site.

"These will be activated to ensure they are fully operational. The system transmits warning tones and verbal instructions to the community.

"This will be a test transmission. The public are required to take no action unless informed otherwise. If you live or work in the Dalmeny area, please share this information."

The site stores crude oil transported from the North Sea via the Kinneil Terminal in Grangemouth.

Dalmeny has storage capacity for about three million barrels in six floating roof tanks.

Two crude oil loading jetties at Hound Point in the Firth of Forth are connected to Dalmeny via a three-mile loading pipelines.

The network allows the unrefined petrol to be pumped onto ships at up to 16,000 m3/hr at each berth.
