Chef Tom Williams said he went up the hill in hope of seeing another sunset view across Edinburgh but was taken aback by the unusual cloud formation covering the city.

The 26-year-old, who has a commercial drone licence and runs a website called TDW Aerial Solutions, said: “I was watching it live on my control but also when looking at it in person, seeing the clouds flowing up over the hills, it was amazing.”

Tom, who lives in Gilmerton, also put together a ‘hyperlapse’ video by connecting a series of images taken every two seconds to show the movement of clouds across the hills.

Allermuir Hill is the nearest of the major Pentlands summit to Edinburgh and offers stunning views both over the city and into the heart of the range.
