Firefighters respond to fire on Lady Lawson street

Emergency services were alerted just after 11.30pm on Thursday to the blaze in the basement of a snowboarding and sports equipment shop on Lady Lawson Street.

Hide AdExtra crews were dispatched to the scene, which is near the Grassmarket, amid fears people had been caught up in the incident.
Everybody was later accounted for after the properties surrounding the blaze were searched, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said.
Two women and a child were checked over at the scene by paramedics.
The SFRS confirmed that their crews remained at the scene on Friday morning.

Hide AdA spokeswoman said they were alerted to smoke coming from the property at 11.38pm on Thursday.
She said: “We attended to a confirmed fire within a ground floor basement of a snowboarding and sports equipment shop. The shop is on the ground floor level of a four-storey tenement building.”
Further appliances were mobilised and the crews used breathing equipment, hose reels and jets to tackle the flames, she said.
The spokeswoman continued: “All persons were accounted for after a search of all properties above and adjacent to the premises.

Hide Ad“There was an adult female, one child and one elderly female in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and they were checked over at the scene as a precautionary measure.
“We had approximately 35 firefighters and four senior officers in attendance.”
She added that gas and electrics workers also attended the scene, along with a Red Cross welfare vehicle.
