Football fans warned they must behave

The warning follows disturbances that took place before and after the match between Hibs and Sunderland at Easter Road on August 6, where a number of arrests were made.

Police are continuing to carry out an investigation into the disorder, and will seek to make further arrests in the coming weeks.

Superintendent Donnie Mackinnon, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: “The disorder that took place was completely unacceptable, and we are sending out a strong message to those involved that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

“We are also reminding fans attending this weekend’s derby that unacceptable conduct will not be tolerated, and that both police and the clubs take seriously any allegations of any racist, sectarian or offensive chanting before, during or after the game.

“The force will investigate complaints and where the evidence is sufficient, those responsible will be arrested, charged and a football banning order applied for.”
