Garden lovers hit the grass for Shandon-wide greenery crawl

Many people have indulged in a pub crawl, but in Shandon a gang of garden enthusiasts are heading out on a less familiar “garden crawl”.

On Sunday, September 4, Shandon Local Food Group will go on a tour of different gardens in area, looking at the different ways in which they have been growing food.

The event will end with a visit to the nationally acclaimed community garden at Myreside.

Shandon Local Food Group was set up in early 2009 to promote the buying and growing of local food. The group’s Gavin Corbett said: “The garden crawl is a fun way of people learning from each other, getting to see what imaginative things can be done with the quite small gardens and back-greens in our area, and, I am sure, finding out the pitfalls as well.

“We’ll be offering refreshments along the way, although not those you’d get on a pub crawl, I am afraid.”
