Garden sold in £1m deal

The city council is closing in on a deal to sell a Granton “walled garden” site to a care home developer.

Officials have revealed that terms have been agreed with a “well-established and successful” operator for a site near the 17th century Caroline Park House, with the price thought to be just over £1 million.

The deal will end any remaining hopes for the ambitious “Granton-Sur-Mer” development, which was to include an open-air swimming pool and community arts facility.

In a report, council chiefs said: “Terms have been agreed for the sale of the Walled Garden site and adjoining land to the west, fronting West Shore Road. The proposed development will include a residential care home with a well-established and successful operator already signed up. ”
